The details of designs

The authors of Alistapart keep amazing me with their amazing articles. This time I had only read the intro of the particular article, and I was already stickied to my screen.

Design is in the Details, an incredibly well written article by one of my designer rolemodels Naz Hamid of Weightshift. I’m not going to give a brief intro this time, let the article speak for itself.

A pretty good css reference

Sitepoint has recently launced a new feature on they’re already feature rich website. It is called the “Reference“, which consists of a pretty complete looking ccs reference. The amazing part is that (as far as I could check) every tag has a page worth of description for itself.

So if you’re a css fanatic this is definitely the place to go to get more information about the subject.

Also something that deserves some attention is the fact that they got two more upcoming references, which are an html reference, and one for javascript. Stay tuned at Sitepoint for more quality reading material.

Learning the art of Php?

I am currently getting more and more into Php, which is quite a process (if you’re willing to do it good). The web however is filled with material which can help you with the learning process.

I am also browsing trough alot of these sites which may help me write better code. I’m not going to mention every site I sometimes used. I am going to name just one (for now). This one site stands out from the crowd, it’s a little unique, and it’s definitely one of the most informative ones I’ve come across. And with that already the one I’ve spent the most time on.

The site I’m talking about is killerphp.com, which provides excellent explanations on php in the form of videos. What I like about these videos is that things are explained in a way which everyone can understand what’s going on.

I for one am definitely going trough every single one of them.

Great typography for a great price

Typography is of great value in the web development business. Great fonts like Helvetica, Georgia, Verdana are widely used, just because they are great. But when you are designing a website you still find yourself looking for a little variation, looking for other fonts to use. But how often do you actually find one that actually suits you’re style. Well.. ofcourse you can find alot.. but there’s a pricetag involved.

Great typography comes with a price. And it deserves to be rewarded. However when you have a slightly lower budget you will have to dig a little bit deeper. Well, let me help you dig a bit.

Exljbris’s typography

Jos Buivenga has what you are looking for. Great fonts, for a great price. Yes, you’ve guessed it, they are free.

He has designed seven great fonts, free of charge. Go check them out!

Going for a new domain for you’re wordpress blog?

If you happen to be planning on moving you’re Wordpress installation, you might have come to the conclusion that you have a variety of things to take care of. For instance, you’re MySQL database has to be backed-up, and imported into the new database, the configuration needs to be redone. Maybe you even want to install a new version of Wordpress while you’re at it.

What if you had some help moving you’re Wordpress to a new domain, wouldn’t that be convenient.

Joost de Valk has set up a 10-step guide on how-to move you’re Wordpress to another domain.

Are you a Wordpress theme designer?

Then you must know like no other that it is a pain to go trough the whole process of creating one. Whether you start from scratch, or strip out the basic html and styling, it is just a pain.

Elliot Jay Stocks’ barker wordpress theme

Most of that can belong to the past now, as Elliot Jay Stocks has brewed a solution, he stripped the whole of Wordpress for you, and made it into a ‘naked theme’, free for anyone to download.

I for one, am going to try this out on my next (probably this site) wordpress theme.

Difficulties with hosting services?

Everybody has asked himself this question once, if not more than that. Choosing a right host can be quite difficult, as you don’t want any painfull surprises after signing up for a year or more with the host.

Pearsonified site header

Chris Pearson over at Pearsonified hears you’re call, and writes an amazing post on the process of choosing a webhost which fits you’re needs now, and in the future.
